Bright and refreshing, this avocado dip or chutney is infused with the aromatic scent of cilantro and mint. It’s creamy, spicy, tangy and will certainly incite double dipping with your favourite veggie snacks. Gluten free, vegan and healthy.
Meet the biggest dip and chutney lover! I love to dollop and slather them on just about anything: eggs, salads, kebabs, vegetables, fish and even smeared on roti. MOUTHWATERING. It must be the desi in me; as I grew up watching mum make concoctions of chutneys and gosh did we enjoy them!
I think you’d agree that apart from adding a punch of flavour, dips and chutneys also offer an opportunity to experiment with various herbs and spices – until you discover that hit recipe.
I won’t lie to you; this is one of our favourite ways to use avocados. Compared to the classic avocado dip recipes I’ve tried, this one turns things up a notch – the gorgeous aroma of the herbs, the kick of chilli and the burst of tanginess with lemon. Is your mouth watering?
How to Make Herb Avocado Dip
I love avocados and they’re one of the most popular fruits in our household. Rich, creamy and versatile, they’re a great option to include as part of a healthy balanced diet. With a higher fat content than most other fruits, according to EatRight Ontario, “avocados are rich in healthy fats, vitamins, minerals and fiber.”
I recently shared a recipe with sweet potato fries that you will love. It was a hit with the kids this summer and then I started to think how an avocado dip or chutney drizzled all over them would be incredible – that was the real inspiration. I don’t think I’ve actually ever seen a recipe of chutney made with avocados – have you?
This avocado dip starts with ripe avocados to give the chutney that creamy, goey texture. If you’ve got unripe avocados and don’t have the patience to wait for them to ripen (like me), put them in a paper bag to speed up the process. Regardless of how ripe your avocados, the key to this avocado dip is the freshness of your herbs. When I buy fresh herbs, their scent lingers in my kitchen. It’s a refreshing smell, isn’t it? I tend to use most of the stems of cilantro, and only the leaves of mint. I love the spicy kick of green chillies and the tanginess of the lemon.

This herb avocado dip or chutney is a great accompaniment with your favourite crackers, vegetables and if you’re like me, it’s perfect slathered on nearly everything. And not to mention, what a healthy treat to bring to parties, potlucks and get-togethers. I love the fact that avocados are nourishing and keep my family ticking along and satisfied for longer. And if that isn’t enough, this avocado dip is also gluten free and vegan – ideal for those with numerous dietary restrictions. If you’re serving this to kids, go easy on the green chillies, or omit altogether.
